The Shard will be officially opened in central London tonight with a spectacular laser show which will light up the capital.

Europe’s tallest building will be lit up at 10.15 tonight by 12 lasers and 30 searchlights as they fire-out from the 95-storey structure across London accompanied by a live performance from the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

The show will be streamed live on The Shard’s website here and Facebook page here

From tomorrow morning  tickets to The View from The Shard viewing platform at the pinnacle of the building will go on sale at www.theviewfromtheshard.com

Irvine Sellar, Chairman of developer Sellar Property said: “The lightshow can be watched live on the web, but as we mark the building’s external completion on the London skyline we hope Londoners will watch the show from vantage points across the capital and be a part of the wonderful celebration.”

Weather permitting, the laser and light show will be bright enough to be visible from the M25 and will feature lasers shooting out 360 degrees from the top of the building.

The clearest views could be from the north bank of the river and toward the City of London with Tower Bridge being the best place to see to inauguration.

The laser show marks the completion of the exterior structure and main contractor Mace will handover the completed building by September 30.

The Shard’s restaurants, shops and The View from The Shard will be open to the public from 1 February 2013.
