Betting Spy: Swansea and Wigan are the form sides

It’s not always the glamour teams who earn you the cash.

Swansea and Wigan may not be the biggest names in the Premier League. But they are certainly two of the form sides and continue to be underrated by the bookies.

I’m hoping Swansea can make-up for the fact they ruined my weekend away in Portugal last week.

Everything was perfect on the Silver Coast outside Lisbon. I’d woken up fairly fresh despite a night on the Super Bock and managed to rattle off nine holes of golf in the blazing sunshine in a respectable 46 whacks.

The Hammers were on the telly at Swansea and I settled down to the game with my West Ham-mad dad and two of my best mates armed with cold beers and some of the saltiest snacks known to man.

Then the whistle blew and everything went wrong.

That’s not quite fair. Big Sam’s boys flattered to deceive for a few minutes before imploding 3-0 via a combination of defensive howlers and clueless hoofing.

Swansea on the other hand looked a decent football team with a real goal threat.

But you can still back them this Saturday at 23/20 against a Sunderland side who haven’t won away since February.

We’ll double them up with Wigan who have started the season in fine form to match their finish last last time.

The Latics are 5/4 at home to beat Stoke and I like the look of a Swansea/Wigan double which pays a shade under 4/1.

Both those sides would be odds-on at home if they were “bigger” names so let’s make the bookies pay for following fashion rather than form.

I’m typing this watching the Paralympic cycling and the skill of some of the riders is unreal.

Watching people hurtling round the Velodrome despite missing an arm or leg makes you realise just how good these athletes are.

Truly inspirational stuff and I can’t wait to return to the Olympic Park on Saturday to watch a great evening session of athletics to take my mind off West Ham’s inevitable home defeat that morning.
