The proposals are scheduled for a construction start in 2014 and include a mix of apartments, three and four bedroom homes.
St Modwen planning manager Colin Darby, said: “Our proposals for South Ockendon will give this former industrial site a new lease of life.
Last week St Modwen established a joint venture with house builder Persimmon to develop 2,000 homes on seven sites owned by the regeneration specialist.
The deal will see around 120 acres of land built out for housing over the next five years and is expected to have an end value of around £300m.
