It is the fifth major scheme from the joint venture between Kier Properties and Network Rail, set up several years ago to develop brownfield land around railway stations in the South East of England.
The £17m construction project will see a four-storey development at Haywards Heath with the existing station building renovated and the transport interchange improved as well as building a Waitrose supermarket, hotel and shops.
The plan has been scaled down from a previous £200m scheme proposed by developer Thornfield, which also included 700 homes.
Simon Rutter, regeneration director with Solum Regeneration, said: “The redevelopment of the area around Haywards Heath station is long overdue.”
The scheme will refurbish the exterior of the station building including new signage, canopies and lighting as well as creating better pedestrian connections directly linking the station and the car park.
Solum intends to start work at Haywards Heath during the Summer of 2013 and for the scheme to be completed by late 2014.
At other projects, the railway partnership is now nearing the completion of the re-development of Epsom Station and work is well underway at Walthamstow.
Solum has also secured planning permission to re-develop Twickenham Station.
