Betting Spy: Villa value to beat sinking Baggies

To paraphrase Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave – I hereby give permission to anyone who catches me writing ‘West Ham to win away’ on a betting slip to shoot me.

The Hammers capitulation at Sunderland last week ruined my weekend and I vow now to never tip the Irons again on their travels.

West Ham take on QPR this Saturday back in the bosom of the Boleyn.

Harry Redknapp is sure to get a lively reception as he continues his “Harry Houdini” quest to save the Hoops from relegation.

QPR got into trouble when a dressing room rift opened between expensive imports on stratospheric wages and the more prosaic players who earned promotion but found themselves the poor relations come pay day.

Redknapp has trimmed the squad of a few luxury players.

But Harry has now put his faith in, um, an expensive import on massive wages and a get-out clause if the relegation trap-door opens.

Quite what that will do for dressing room harmony I don’t know but Harry obviously thinks Loic Remy is worth the gamble.

Let’s hope he’s left his shooting boots in France on Saturday and I’ll be leaving the bets well alone on that game for obvious reasons.

For a decent punt this weekend let’s look to the Midlands where another derby sees West Brom host Aston Villa.

The Baggies are stuttering at the moment and I can see a bit of value in Villa at 4/1 to ease the pressure on beleaguered manager Paul Lambert’s shoulders.

West Brom had a storming start to the season but the wheels are coming off as evidenced by five games without a win since Boxing Day.

The wheels have never really been on for Villa but I fancy them to sneak this at what looks like a big price.
