The five-year deal has an extension option which could take its total value to £120m.

The contract involves the delivery of a wide range of highways services including resurfacing, gulley cleaning, street lighting, road marking and earthworks.

Tarmac’s National Contracting division will work in partnership with the council’s in-house highways team when the deal starts in April.

Nottinghamshire County Council is looking to save over £2m each year through efficiency initiatives with the cash reinvested into improving the condition of the county’s existing road network.

Councillor Richard Jackson, Chairman of the Council’s highways and transport committee said: “I am particularly pleased that under its terms 90% of the work will be carried out using the local workforce and suppliers and that it will allow some £2m to be reinvested back into our highways network where it will be used to carry out much-needed maintenance work such as repairs to potholes.”
