Betting Spy: Everton to blunt rampant Rooney

It’s been a funny old week on the football front.

England are back in a winning groove without Frank Lampard and John Terry. Perhaps the two things could be related?

Some bookmakers have even slashed our price to win Euro 2012 to as low as 7/1. Please treat those odds with the dignity they deserve and avoid at all costs.

Spain are favourites in the same list at 4/1 and simply have to be backed if you can wait two years to pick up your winnings.

But it’s back to the domestic grind this week and the tastiest match looks to be at Goodison Park where Everton host Man Utd.

I bet Wayne Rooney can’t wait to see what songs the terrace wits of Merseyside come up with to serenade him after his latest bout of paid-for “companionship”.

I waded through the grisly details of spurned love in the tabloids last week but the really shocking thing was the amount of smoking and boozing Wazza indulged in.

Rooney is a professional athlete but I can’t help thinking he might take the Ricky Hatton route once the all-day training sessions stop.

I’m not seeing Wayne as a Teddy Sheringham type in his dotage as a diet of Silk Cuts and lager finally catches up with him.

But it will be the Everton back four who have that job on Saturday and I can see the match ending in a draw at 5/2 with Paddy Power.

Elsewhere, Liverpool look a decent away price at 7/5 to turnover a Birmingham side who have stuttered a bit in the current campaign.

As for West Ham. What can I say? We take on Chelsea at home and the bookies verdict of 10/1 on a home win looks about right.

How has it come to this when we are 10/1 to win at home?

If the Premier League turns into a series of one sided matches where an elite can’t get beat then supporters could lose interest faster than an escort when the cash runs out.
