World top five-ranked cladding contractor Far East Global Group has won its first high-rise project in the UK to clad a central London block of flats for Lend Lease.

Far East Façade UK, a subsidiary of the leading curtain wall specialist, has won the coveted contract to design and supply curtain walling for a 37-storey tower at London’s Elephant and Castle regeneration project.

The  ‘One the Elephant’ mixed-use tower forms part of Southwark council’s massive regeneration programme for the area.

It is the second Chinese cladding contractor to have secured work in the city – fellow Chinese  specialist Yuanda has already bagged three big tower schemes in London.

These include curtain walling for British Land’s Cheesgrater tower, the St George’s Tower in Vauxhall, which has just been completed, and contractor Mount Anvil’s 36-storey Lexicon tower scheme on City Road in London.

The Lexicon project is presently in the ground with Morrisroe building the basement.

Lend Lease chose Far East Façade for the project following a highly competitive bid process.

The UK subsidiary’s parent arm provided the curtain walling for the world’s tallest building, the iconic Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

Far East Façade picked up its first deal in the UK earlier this year to provide the curtain wall for a small London office development at 71 Queen Victoria Street, which provided a springboard for bigger jobs.

Managing Director of Far East Facade, Peter Walker, said: “This is an exciting challenge for our London team, with Squire and Partner’s design includes some really interesting architectural elements, as well as being a Code 4 sustainability build.

“Success in the UK market is mirrored across the group, with Far East Global Group 2013 order book showing a year on year increase of 170%.

“A series of major contract wins this year – particularly in the North American market – include a number of projects with big name UK and European contractors such as Laing O’Rourke, Bouygues and Skanska.”
