Morgan Sindall said Peter Jacobs is taking early retirement for personal reasons.
The company added: “At 58 years old, and after 40 years in the construction industry, he plans to take a step back from the frontline.”
Graham Shennan, managing director of Morgan Sindall, said: “Peter has done a tremendous job developing our construction offering in the capital and will leave with our best wishes.
“We are in the process of recruiting a replacement to help us make the most of the London market, which continues to present growth opportunities.”
Jacobs joined Morgan Sindall in early 2011 following 24 years at Bovis Lend Lease.
He is the latest in a series of senior managers to announce they are leaving the group.
Earlier this month it emerged that Morgan Sindall’s fit-out division boss Steve Elliot has stepped down after 19 years.
His colleague on the fit-out side, commercial director Tim Smith, is also due to retire at the end of the year.
