The firm has been phasing out the famous brands over the last 12 months as part of a move to streamline the business under the Balfour Beatty flag.

Scotland-based Raynesway Construction is now the last of the old brands standing within the £11bn turnover group.

The firms will now operate under Balfour Beatty Construction Services UK banner, run by Nick Pollard.

Balfour Beatty started streamlining its operating units 15 months ago when eight of its 15 existing brands were dissolved including names like Dean and Dyball.

But Mansell and Birse Civils were retained, along with road maintenance specialist Raynseway Construction to avoid unsettling clients.

Mansell, which was established in 1908, was bought by Balfour Beatty for £42m in 2003.

It operated as Balfour’s largest subsidiary turning over around £800m, through mainly smaller regional projects, as well as housing and fit-out.

Doncaster-based Birse was founded by Peter Birse, back in 1970. It was bought by Balfour just over seven years ago for £32m, with the building business quickly integrated into Mansell.

The civil engineering arm continued to operate as an independent operating company under the Balfour Beatty flag until now.
