Gurpeage Singh Bhatti, 40, also known as Jason Singh, was the director of the concrete firm, which went into liquidation two years ago with debts of around £300,000.

An investigation by the Insolvency Service found that Bhatti failed to keep adequate accounting records for his company, and submit records to the liquidator.

Without proper accounting records it was not possible to verify the financial dealings of the concrete contractor and in particular, to account for over £150,000 withdrawn in cash and more than £400,000 transferred to Bhatti’s personal account.

Robert Clarke, Group Leader of Insolvent Investigations North at the Insolvency Service, said: “Directors have a clear, statutory duty to ensure that their companies maintain proper accounting records, and, following insolvency, deliver them to the office-holder in the interests of fairness and transparency.

“Without a full account of transactions it is impossible to determine whether a director has discharged his duties properly, or is using a lack of documentation as a cloak for impropriety.

“Bhatti has paid the price for failing to do that, as he cannot now carry on in business for the duration of his ban other than at his own risk.”
