The major new residential development, to be known as Armourer’s Court, will consist of 490,000 sq ft in five buildings – 10, 16, 22 and 25 storeys high – set around a landscaped garden.
The proposal includes a western entrance, a ticket hall and a ventilation building and will be located next to phase four of Berkeley Homes’ Royal Arsenal development at Dial Arch Square.
It distinctive design will feature with the bronze and aluminium reflecting the metals used in production of arms.
Crossrail is expected shortly to reveal which of four contractors – Balfour Beatty, Laing O’Rourke, Morgan Sindall and Vinci – have won the station fitout, which is expected to cost around £75m.
Work on the station box was completed by Berkeley Homes last year when it was handed over to Crossrail three months early.
The new station will be funded with contributions provided by Berkeley Homes, the Royal Borough of Greenwich and Transport for London.
The station is due to open in 2018, the centenary year of Armistice Day.
The Crossrail development of nearly 400 new homes at Armourer’s Court above the eastern end of Woolwich Crossrail station is separate to the Berkeley Homes development above the western end of the station.
