GB Building Solutions has split into four operating regions to manage surging growth at the £200m-plus turnover business this year.

The firm has also hired two industry big hitters to help lead two of four new regional management teams.

To cope with rising orders Surrey-based GB Building has taken on an extra 80 staff in 2014, expanding the headcount by around a third.

The firm is planning to keep recruiting in the months ahead to deliver a swelling pipeline of building work.

Ex-ISG south west director John Rawlinson (below) has been brought in as managing director at GB’s new central and south west division.

He has spent 28 years in the industry and previously also worked at Morgan Sindall Group and Wimpey/Tarmac.

In another key signing, former Willmott Dixon managing director Jonathan Payne (below) will join GB Building shortly.

Jonathan Payne GB Building

Payne joins as managing director of the London and south east division bringing experience from leading growth in the region after 20 years at Willmott Dixon.

GB Building will use the new regional set up to continue to target student accommodation, residential, leisure, healthcare and school work.

Executive chairman Martin Smout said: “The outlook for our construction business is good, and we expect the recent headcount growth to continue.

“The time and market is right to migrate from the north-south divisional model that has successfully steered us through the years of recession into a more regionalised approach, where our customers and people can align with regional delivery offices with senior managers leading focused teams whilst maintaining a consistent one business approach.”

GB Group’s business development director Marie Buckingham has been promoted to run the new Yorkshire and north east division as md.
