Balfour Beatty Rail plans to close offices

Balfour Beatty Rail is planning to close its Birmingham and Derby offices at the end of this year.

The firm said the closure programme had been initiated after the division failed to renew regional civils frameworks for Network Rail’s Control Period 5.

Balfour confirmed details of its Birmingham office closure, but details of how many staff Derby will be affected have yet to be made public.

Of the 31 staff in Birmingham, around half are expected to be redeployed with the remaining jobs under redundancy consultation.

A spokeswoman said: “We are working with these employees to identify if suitable alternative roles can be found within Balfour Beatty Rail UK or in the wider Balfour Beatty Group.

“The decision is a consequence of our Rail UK business not securing some regional civils frameworks for Network Rail’s Control Period 5.”

The proposed office closure is scheduled to take place by the end of January 2015.
