Burr is favourite to win Wednesday’s final after being named “star baker” a record five times in the series.
He helps run the family building business Burr RH & PR in north London.
Burr told the Sunday Times: “I found being in the (baking) tent is very similar to being on a building site.
“You are surrounded by tradesmen doing their jobs well, except it was just a lot cleaner and less swearing.
“Plastering comes in handy when you are smoothing the top of a torte.”
Burr was also forced to hit back at tabloid newspaper reports last week that he came from a privileged background and only had a managerial role at the family firm.
He took to Twitter to post pictures of him and his father on site carrying out renovation work.
Burr stated on Twitter: “Me and may dad in our ‘managerial’ roles”
