Carr, who was past national chair of the National Federation of Builders and sits on the board of the CBI Construction Council was honoured for his contribution to construction and charity.
While National Chair at NFB, he focused on both the challenges and barriers to growth that face the construction.
This included access to finance, pipeline of opportunities, open and smart procurement, poor payment practices, and greater engagement with schools.
Carr said: “I am, humbled to receive such an award, but in an unprecedented year, I extremely pleased to see that many of our NHS heroes are also being recognised. Having recovered from several serious illnesses, I have first-hand experience of the amazing work that they do and would like to extend my thanks, gratitude and appreciation to them”.
Among the other honours, which this year were dominated by Covid-19 heroes and NHS key workers a few were recognised with MBEs for their work on NHS Scotland’s Louisa Jordon pop-up hospital.
Hector Macaulay, managing director of Balfour Beatty Scotland and Duncan Mackay, regional operations director, both received an MBE for services to construction and the NHS during Covid-19.
Balfour was the main contractor for NHS Louisa Jordan transforming Glasgow’s Scottish Events Campus into a 1,000 bed hospital in just 20 days.
