Multiplex and Murphy shared the honours in the contracts league rankings for orders taken in June after both firms bagged projects estimated to be worth £200m.

Murphy took the contract to build a station in south Cambridge for the East-West Rail line. Enabling works are underway at the site located next to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, home to the Royal Papworth Hospital and AstraZeneca headquarters.

While in the City of London, Multiplex signed a deal with Royal Asset London Management to deliver a large office scheme next to Holborn Viaduct.

The 36,000 sq m offices designed by PLP Architecture will see the demolition of three buildings with the foundation retained to reduce the scheme’s carbon footprint.

Among the other contract wins in the month, R G Group won a brace of big jobs taking it to third position in the June ranking, with a major order worth around £112m for developer Unite’s 716-bed student accommodation project in London Stratford.

The firm also won an £82m contract to deliver Latitude Blue, a 488-home build-to-rent project in Leeds.

According to data compiled by Barbour ABI, the total orders collected by the top 50 firms remained stable at £2.86bn with 117 jobs secured, slightly up on May.

In the rolling 12-month league rankings, the pecking order among the top four remained the same as last month. While Kier maintained its position at the top chasing pack Mace, Balfour Beatty and Bougues are starting to closed the gap.
