Emerging Forms by British artist Hugo Dalton gives a glimpse of how the revamped store will look after its transformation by main contractor Faithdean
The artwork was installed following completion of work to raise the original facade of the building.
The finished project will also feature permanent artworks by the artist.
Dalton said: “For a few weeks this summer, the construction itself became a piece of theatre when the iconic façade of the former Fenwick store was raised 4.5 metres to accommodate the new two-storey shopfronts.
“Emerging Forms grew out of that remarkable process. While the construction is monumental and highly engineered, the temporary façade is soft, fluid and sculptural. It also echoes the stone sculpture I am creating for the building’s entrance: in both works, the challenge is to make a solid material appear weightless and effortless, even though achieving that effect demands physical effort and absolute precision.
“The building goes back under cover in August, but Emerging Forms gives passers-by a glimpse of the architecture that will be fully revealed in 2027.”
The artwork shows dramatic two-storey retail frontages and spaces on New Bond Street due to be handed over to luxury retailers in Autumn 2027 by developer Lazari.
