Bowmer + Kirkland is main contractor on the project for a partnership between Unite Students and Newcastle University to create 2,000 new purpose-built student bedrooms across the site
The bathroom solution uses Walker Modular’s one-piece seamless GRP construction, designed to reduce the number of joints and waterproof interfaces within the bathroom enclosure.
Each pod will be manufactured within Walker Modular’s controlled factory environment in Hull where trained production teams carry out defined manufacturing, fit-out, inspection and quality assurance processes before the completed bathroom is delivered to site.
The firm said: “The Castle Leazes project demonstrates the scale at which bathroom pod manufacture can support major purpose-built student accommodation developments.”
The new Castle Leazes development is expected to reopen in time for the 2028/29 academic year.
