The development will bring around 150 affordable flats to a site next to the Arnold Estate, close to London Bridge and Bermondsey stations.
Rents will be set at London Living Rent levels and targeted at essential workers on household incomes between £26,000 and £67,000.
It’s the first scheme to come forward under the council’s emerging Affordable Housing Supplementary Planning Guidance.
A new community centre with a double-height events space and smaller support rooms will also be built as part of the project.
Construction is expected to start in mid-2026 and complete in 2029.
Cllr Helen Dennis, cabinet member for new homes, said: “Creating affordable housing in London is always a challenge but Southwark Council is dedicated to meeting this challenge head-on as part of our 2030 strategy.”
