Betting Spy: Bleu is the colour for Grand National

You can’t beat the parade at the Grand National – and that’s before you even see a horse.

It’s that time of year when Aintree is awash with Liverpool’s finest watching the world’s most famous steeplechase.

The lights have been dimming across the city all week as the locals turn the tanning booths up to max to look their best for the big day.

And the current cold snap won’t stop the ladies showing off more flesh than Tom Daley.

Picking a winner always helps with the goosebumps and I like the look of Cappa Bleu.

Trainer Evan Williams is quietly confident about his chances after a 4th place in last year’s National and a decent tune-up at Ascot last time out.

Cappa Bleu is carrying 2lbs less than 2012 and looks worth a go at 11/1 with Paddy Power who are also paying five places for each-way bets.

I was considering a trip to watch the National then take-in West Ham’s visit to Liverpool on Sunday.

But I’ve got more chance of picking the first three home in the big race than the Hammers have of an Anfield victory which has eluded them since 1963.

The stage looks set for another West Ham northern no-show so I’ll give that game a massive swerve and look for value elsewhere.

And that could come at White Hart Lane where Everton are a very large-looking 3/1 to beat a Spurs side who are running out of steam.

Gareth Bale aside, Tottenham have been a bit below par in the last few weeks as a hectic fixture schedule starts to take its toll.

Everton are making a late Top Four charge of their own and are more than capable of landing the odds.
