Banned boss jailed for running building firm
A disqualified company director has been jailed for eight months after pleading guilty to managing another contractor while barred.
Allan Jeffrey Court, 60, was initially disqualified for 3 ½ years in 2006 for his conduct while a director of Project Two Services Ltd.
The latest investigation by The Insolvency Service and Department for Business Innovation and Skills found that Court acted as director of Ducal Building Services Ltd between November 2006 and March 2010.
The probe also found that although he formally resigned as a director on 10 November 2006, he still controlled the company’s finances and decided which invoices would be paid.
When the company was sued in 2008, it was Court who dealt with the matter.
The investigation also showed he received significantly higher dividend payments and remuneration than the other registered director.
The company ceased trading in November 2009 and went into liquidation in March 2010 with debts of approximately £800,000.
Deputy Chief Investigation Officer Liam Mannall from the Department for Business Innovation and Skills said: “Mr. Court’s conviction shows that people who break disqualifications restrictions will be investigated and brought to justice. Mr. Court not only received a prison sentence, but has now had his disqualification term increased.
“This should serve as a warning to other banned directors who wish to ignore the law that they will not get away with impunity.”
