Spanish contractor Dragados shot to the top of the August contracts league after securing the £500m job to upgrade Bank Station on the London Underground.

The firm has now established a firm foothold in the London civil engineering major project arena, building on its £500m Crossrail tunnel drive job in joint venture with John Sisk, which started last year.

Engineering contractor Burmeister & Wain makes a rare appearance in the league after securing two renewable energy plants, one in Humberside and the other in Derry.

Skanska came in with the third highest haul of jobs by value after winning a £230m job for the MoD to redevelop Lyneham.

Sir Robert McAlpine also reached financial close on its £228m scheme for City of Glasgow College, while Balfour Beatty secured more than 15 contract wins during the month as its bidding hit rate improved.

BAM, Siemens, Nexans and Amec are all working on a £148m job to lay a 132 kv subsea cable from Kintyre to Hunterston for SSE.

Rankings in the annualised table of contract wins remained stable this month with Balfour Beatty and second placed BAM extending their leads from the chasing pack of Morgan Sindall, Laing O’Rourke and Kier.
