David Fison, chief executive of family-owned contractor Osborne, is to retire next month.

He will hand over the role of chief executive to Andy Steele, currently managing director of the construction division.

Fison led Osborne for six years, before that he was chief executive of Skanska’s UK construction business and in the 1990s director of civil engineering at Balfour Beatty.

He said: “Getting through the recession was tough. The great thing though is that the company has come through it with a refreshed and stronger commitment to customer service that is delivered by all of our people.”

Group chairman Andrew Osborne said: “It has been a very great pleasure to have worked with David – his integrity, openness and passion for the business has been an inspiration.

Steele rejoined Osborne nearly two years ago after starting his career with Osborne in 1985 as a graduate trainee.

In construction, he worked as commercial manager with Stansell Construction and as managing director of Connaught.

As part of the succession plan, John Craig, present education director, will become managing director of Osborne’s construction division.
