The trade body is hoping to quell fears over the quality of Chinese steel used on UK sites
One buyer said: “Atlantic Steel Processing Ltd have been a significant purchaser of steel coils and plates from China since 2004.
“Both ourselves and more importantly our customers regard material supplied by the Tier One mills including Anshan, Benxi, Nanjing and Wuhan as the best available product in the world.
“During this eleven-year period we have not had one problem with the welding of Chinese material and the material has performed far better over a multitude of applications than any equivalent EU mill.
“It is our intention to continue purchasing this material from China which is universally regarded as the best value for money product available.”
The association said it is worried that claims Chinese steel is sub-standard “may be an attempt at indirect restriction of free trade and competition.”
It added: “ISTA will closely engage its members and their customers in concert with the relevant standards bodies and steel associations to address these and future issues.”
