Under the St Albans and District City Council led plan, the former police station, an NHS clinic and parts of the St Albans civic centre will be demolished and redeveloped with new homes, shops and restaurants.

Morgan Sindall has signed a pre-construction agreement, after being selected through a Pagabo construction framework,  to deliver the £60m development across two six-storey buildings. Demolition of the buildings is likely to get underway in June.

These will provide 100 mixed tenure flats, alongside commercial and retail facilities which will be located on the ground and first floors.

It will also see the construction of a new basement car park with 100 spaces and all associated substructure works.

David Rowsell, Morgan Sindall Construction’s area director, said: “Morgan Sindall Construction has recently delivered an outstanding residential refurbishment for St Albans City and District Council at the former Museum of St Albans, and we look forward to building on this positive partnership and our knowledge of the community.”

Councillor Julian Daly, Portfolio Holder for Commercial and Development for St Albans City and District Council, said: “This is one of the most ambitious developments that the Council has ever undertaken and it is very exciting that we are now moving on to the construction work.”
