Redundancies are believed to have already been made among the Oldham-based contractor’s 150 staff.
The Enquirer was told by a number of industry sources that DCT ran into trouble over the Christmas period.
The Oldham Chronicle reported that staff and suppliers have been contacted by DCT informing them of financial troubles.
Cash-flow problems are believed to have been caused by a long-running legal battle with Liverpool City Council.
An arbitration ruling on the case is understood to have left DCT with a financial black hole after racking up legal costs.
Part of DCT – Dew Construction (Oldham) – went into administration in May 2012 when 31 staff were made redundant.
DCT was formed in 1980 and had a £40m turnover last year.
Repeated calls to DCT’s Oldham head office and its Scottish regional office by the Enquirer have gone unanswered.
