Dixon replaces Peter Jacobs, who last October announced that he would be taking early retirement.
He will report directly to Pat Boyle, who was appointed as managing director of construction and design at Morgan Sindall at the start of the year.
Dixon’s new role also includes overseeing Morgan Sindall’s aviation business.
He spent nearly 17 years at Birse Civils before joining Balfour Beatty as project director of Balfour Beatty major civil engineering five years ago, later being promoted to managing director of Balfour Beatty Major Projects.
