Tilbury Douglas has completed a four-year financial turnaround, restoring its balance sheet to a positive net asset position after starting life as a standalone contractor in 2022 with net liabilities of around £80m.

The latest milestone comes just six months after the business was still carrying net liabilities of £33m at the turn of the year, underlining the pace of its recovery.

Alongside the balance sheet repair, Tilbury Douglas secured more than £500m of new work during the first half of 2026, lifting its order book by more than 20% year on year to £1.7bn.

The contractor’s latest wins span education, justice, healthcare, water and defence, while its Dunn & Bradstreet credit rating has also improved to 84.

Education remained a key growth market after Tilbury Douglas retained its place on the current Department for Education framework and secured a spot on the £15.4bn Construction Framework 2025 for high value projects across both the North and South. It has already received its first direct awards to deliver two new secondary schools.

The contractor also said it was expanding its defence workload while building a stronger pipeline of AMP8 water work.

Alongside the operational progress, Tilbury Douglas has rebranded its Paragon interiors business as Tilbury Douglas Fit-Out and launched an Industrial Construction Strategy based on platform procurement and standardised delivery.

Chief executive Craig Tatton said: “Our return to a positive net asset position, alongside the significant improvement in our Dunn & BradStreet score, demonstrates the continued strengthening of the business.

“It reinforces our financial resilience and provides employees, customers, partners and suppliers with confidence that Tilbury Douglas is a secure, long-term delivery partner.”
