Betting Spy: Away day double for Spurs and Swansea

Wayne Rooney has rightly hogged all the headlines this week after breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s international goal scoring record.

The debate has been rumbling on ever since about where Rooney sits in the pantheon of England strikers.

But before everyone gets all misty-eyed about the good old days, I still remember hitmen like Franny Jeffers, Brian Deane, Michael Ricketts, Jay Bothroyd and John Fashanu leading the line for their country.

On that basis Rooney will do for me and let’s keep everything crossed he has a decent tournament left in him next Summer.

The international break meant I didn’t slip any further down my Fantasy League table.

But it’s back to the main event this weekend with a full Premier League programme containing some standout games.

Man United host Liverpool with both teams reeling from defeats last time out to Swansea and West Ham respectively.

There are huge question marks over both sides and it looks too tricky to call from a punting point of view with the whiff of a tight draw about the game.

While the main international focus was on Rooney, fellow forward Harry Kane weighed in with a couple of strikes to get his season under way.

That could prove significant to a Spurs side who had a disappointing August with three draws and a defeat.

Tottenham need a kick-start and that might come during a visit to struggling Sunderland.

Swansea are another side in decent form and they can take all three points at Watford who seem more set-up for playing away from home than at Vicarage Road.

The Spurs and Swansea double pays 4/1 which would make that horrible running total below look a lot prettier.

Hardly any mention of West Ham this week. But I can’t keep East London out of the column completely.

Chigwell Construction have just been confirmed as the new sponsors of Dagenham and Redbridge’s stadium.

The Daggers will now play at the Chigwell Construction Stadium and I’m sure the club will get a decent deal on ground repairs from the maintenance specialist.
