The study will be led by WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff director, Nasar Malik, who will join the company in July from Atkins where he was previously involved in the development of the A6 to Manchester Airport Relief Road.
In the last Budget, the Government agreed to allocate £350,000 to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority to review of the case for the A6-M60 Relief Road, one of four relief road schemes recommended as part of the South East Manchester Multi Modal Strategy (SEMMMS) programme.
WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff’s transport and environmental teams will be involved in the year-long study which will examine the potential environmental impact, congestion relief and include a cost/benefit analysis of creating a relief road from A6 Hazel Grove junction to the M60 Bredbury intersection.
The proposed new road also would provide a link from the Manchester Airport Relief Road scheme, currently under construction, to the motorway.
WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has worked on several schemes in Stockport, most recently designing a masterplan for Stockport Station alongside design architects BDP.
Other major infrastructure schemes across the North West also include the Omega development site and the Bridge Street Quarter in Warrington, and Chapel Street in Salford.
