The scheme is being developed in partnership with Birmingham City Council and will create 200 construction jobs when work starts in the Autumn.

Around six properties will need to be demolished at the Hagley Road site in Harborne before work begins.

Providing 240 one and two bedroom apartments for rent and sale, the Village’s affordable homes will be available to local residents aged 55 to 95-plus.

The contract will also include community shops, restaurants, bars, a hair dresser, art studio and gym.

House builder Frank Haslam Milan started work on Panel Croft, a second 180-home village, forming part of the Newtown regeneration plan late last year.

Wilmott Dixon is also currently building 184 units in Milton Keynes under a £26m contract for the first phase of the Shenley Wood Village.

A further two retirement villages are planned for Birmingham as part of a £200m development partnership with the council.

The charitable trust is on the hunt for further sites throughout the central regional of England to add the the 13 villages built or under construction.
