Morgan Sindall is looking to lure people back into construction who have taken voluntary career breaks in a fresh initiative to boost the industry’s skills.

It is on the lookout for people across the country and has called on those already working in the industry to alert friends and ex-colleagues to its new Returnships programme.

The construction and infrastructure company is on the hunt for people at all levels but particularly those with mid to senior management level experience, who have taken a voluntary career break of at least 18 months

The new programme was developed by Morgan Sindall’s HR director, Dawn Moore, who said applicants may have left the industry to run their own business, raise children or care for a relative. They may have had an illness themselves which stopped them from working, but are now well enough to return to work

Moore, who was recently awarded the Champions Award at the Working Mums 2017 Top Employer Awards, for the firm’s commitment to a flexible working culture, added: “There are times when many of us may have to take a lengthy career break, whether this is for family or personal reasons. Returning to work after this time can be daunting and our Returnships programme seeks to resolve this.

“Not only will the individual be able to balance their home life with their return through a staged programme, but will also be offered the opportunity to build upon previous experience and develop new skills.”

Those who have worked in the construction and infrastructure sector previously are to be considered alongside those who feel they have the transferable skills, experience or qualifications from other sectors.

The innovative programme is similar to an intern placement – an initial three-month paid placement will be offered, with a view to securing a permanent position.

She said that this placement would serve as a staged return, offering the opportunity for individuals to re-engage with working life, initially on a part to full-time basis, all the time developing skills and competencies required to work with a leading UK contractor.

Thos interested will need to apply by 15 December with the successful applicants invited onto to the programme on 6 March 2018
