The venture capital specialist took control of the Derby steelwork company last December.

Over the past four months, Robinson has secured contracts totalling £12.5m through its Robinson Agriculture and Robinson Steel Structures divisions, bucking the national downward trend for construction.

Key wins for Robinson Steel Structures include a £4m contract for Bowmer & Kirkland for a 10,000 sq m Tesco store it is building in Sheffield and a £1m contract to deliver the steelwork for the Co-operative Academy at Stoke-on-Trent, from September 2012.

Robinson managing director Mike Newton said: “Despite the downturn affecting the construction industry, we continue to win work from clients requiring high-quality buildings delivered on time and on budget.

“We are able to offer significant project capability in the delivery of complex, steel fabricated buildings, with a full range of specialist services including end-to-end project delivery and planning assistance.”

R Capital is best know for its recent turnaround of the Little Chef restaurant chain.

In construction, it bought flat roofing contractor Rock Asphalte, turning it into a broader based roofing solutions business before selling it to the management.

S Robinson & Sons was set up in 1964, specialising in agricultural and construction steelwork. At the peak, the steelwork contractor turned over £48m but like others has suffered from the severity of the downturn.
