It is believed the driver, who was in his sixties, suffered a heart attack while climbing down from his cab while working on the Athletes Village site.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the cause of death to the Enquirer this afternoon and said the case would now be handed over to the coroner.
The news means the Olympic site still boasts its industry-leading accident record of not suffering a construction fatality since building work began.
