Betting Spy: Harry’s England game is a risky one

Well, it looks like the England manager’s job is Harry Redknapps whenever he wants it.

But that role has been a graveyard of reputations and surely even a man as confident as ‘Arry must have a few reservations?

Kevin Keegan, Sven Goran Eriksson, Steve McClaren and Fabio Capello have all occupied the hot seat in recent years.

And one thing is for sure, they certainly didn’t leave with their reputations enhanced.

The media would have you believe that Redknapp is a national treasure.

But there are plenty of others who say he doesn’t leave clubs in a great position and that’s not something anyone can afford to do with England.

Redknapp knows how to soft-soap the sports reporters – but if results go against the national team then they will turn quicker than John Terry as the “Wally in the Brolly” and “Turnip” Taylor will testify.

One of Redknapp’s strengths has been working the transfer market to unearth hidden gems.

Hopefully the FA has pointed out to him that transfers aren’t allowed at international level.

But it would certainly sort out our team if Harry bought in “that little Argie fella” up front and swapped the rest for the Spanish side.

The bookies think he’s a cert with 2/5 the best price available and Paddy Power has paid out already.

But you won’t be able to put much on in that market. The last thing the FA need now is a betting scandal over the next manager.

We’ll have a look at England’s chances in Euro 2012 nearer the time but for now let’s try and win back some of that cash Man Utd threw away for us in a mad five minutes at Chelsea last week.

Sir Alex Ferguson said the result would have been different if Hernandez had come on earlier.

The striker apparently had the Chelsea back four “on toast”. I’ve no idea what that means either but these managers speak a different language.

Man Utd should see off Liverpool in the early Saturday game but the odds-on quotes look a bit tight.

So let’s look a little further south for a decent double where Fulham can see off Stoke and Spurs beat Newcastle in a double which pays a touch under 2/1.

That’s not a massive price but it’s a decent bet and don’t forget – it’s tax free.
