Capita Symonds, Davis Langdon and EC Harris have won contracts worth up to £30m to carry-out a comprehensive survey of the state of school buildings across the country.

The Property Data Survey Programme for Partnerships for Schools will examine up to 23,000 educational establishments across the country.

Ten bidders were in the hunt for the survey programme which the Government has budgeted between £10m-30m for.

The winning consultants will work in each of the following regions:

  • North West: Davis Langdon
  • North East: Capita Symonds
  • Yorkshire & the Humber: Capita Symonds
  • West Midlands: Davis Langdon
  • East Midlands: Davis Langdon
  • East of England: EC Harris
  • South West: Capita Symonds
  • South East: EC Harris
  • London: EC Harris

Anthony Walker, Deputy Director, Technical and Property at Partnerships for Schools (PfS) said: “The work of these firms will span across all local authorities and schools, eliminating the potential for regional variations in the data collected.”

Simon Jones, Survey Programme Director at Capita Symonds, said: “Capita Symonds is pleased to be supporting the Government on its survey programme, continuing our excellent working relationship with the team at PfS.

“We are especially pleased to be working with schools in the North East, Yorkshire and the South West, building on our existing relationships and knowledge of the schools estate in these areas.”

Gordon Stirling, National Director for Building Surveying at Davis Langdon said: “We believe that the quality of the school environment has a major impact on pupils and staff, so see this is a critical exercise to ensure that the condition of school buildings across England provide the best possible learning environments for the future.

“This survey programme will provide the foundations for a robust national school investment strategy.”

Simon Lucas, Head of Education at EC Harris, said: “The Property Data Survey Programme is a key component of Government policy and we are proud to be one of three companies selected to help make the best possible schools capital investment decisions, especially in this time of continuing financial austerity.

“We are now looking forward to moving into the delivery stage, using our expertise and national coverage to ensure the rapid roll out of this programme.”

The Property Data Survey Programme has been established by the Department for Education (DfE) to obtain a clear picture on the high-level condition issues on schools across the country.

The data collected will be used to provide evidence of the current condition of schools that will be considered as part of future maintenance allocations.
