Betting Spy: Rose runs into form just in time for Open

As a West Ham season ticket holder I’m used to seeing some dross at Upton Park.

But things could reach a new low this Saturday night when the hallowed turf plays host to “heavyweights” David Haye and Dereck Chisora.

I’ve seen some great battles in the middle of the park at the academy of football. But these two are more Faubert and Kovac than Brooking and Devonshire.

Haye is a very good cruiserweight who has come out of retirement to take on a man who, while limited as a fighter, is two-and-a-half stone heavier.

The last time these two squared-up was at the infamous brawl in Munich where they both failed to land a blow.

And that could set the pattern for the real fight where the crowd may be forced to watch 12 rounds of the better, smaller man trying to stay out of reach and nick it on points.

But enough about these two – let’s turn our attention to the much more civilised sport of golf where The Open starts next Thursday at Royal Lytham and St Annes.

The Lancashire links should serve up a four-day feast of golf and I’m looking to Justin Rose to win us a few bob.

Rose has been decent in the two majors so far this season finishing 21st at the US Open and 8th at the Masters.

He also sealed ninth spot at the French Open last week finishing with a couple of eye-catching sub 70 rounds.

Rose is in good nick and his time on the US tour seems to have toughened him up.

Paddy Power are dangling a very attractive 30/1 on Rose and are paying a quarter of the odds for the first seven places so he’s worth an each-way punt.

After a successful Euro 2012 we are betting with the bookies money anyway so here’s to Rose landing us some extra cash on the Lancs coast.

And as for a bet on the boxing?

I’ll lay you any odds you like the promoters end the night with a big smile on their faces after persuading 30,000 plus people to watch that.
