Bear Scotland, the Ringway, Babtie Jacobs, Breedon Aggregates joint venture, will become responsible for overseeing 814 miles of trunk roads in the North West taking over from incumbent Balfour Beatty/Mouchel’s TranServ joint venture.
TranServ will shift to the South West region taking over management of 443 miles of roads from Amey.
The two fourth generation (4G) frameworks are estimated to be worth between £130m and £160m and will support around 1,250 jobs across Scotland over five years.
New-style trunk road maintenance frameworks will promote innovation and encourage sustainable road maintenance and will start next April.
Transport Minister Keith Brown said: “We are continuing our investment in the trunk roads however the tough economic climate means we have to deliver more services on tighter budgets. These contracts are designed to encourage operating companies to deliver innovation and value for the public purse.
“Both BEAR and Scotland TranServ have submitted strong bids and we are confident they can build on their previous experience to deliver a trunk road network that is safe and well-maintained.”
South West Unit
The total route length in the South West Unit is 678 km and comprises the following trunk roads:
- M8/A8 (Edinburgh – Greenock);
- M73 (Maryville – Mollinsburn);
- M74/A74(M)/A74 (Glasgow – Carlisle);
- M77/A77 (Glasgow – Stranraer); M80/A80 (Glasgow – Stirling);
- M898/A898 (Erskine Bridge); A75 (Gretna – Dumfries – Stranraer);
- A76 (Dumfries – Kilmarnock); A78 (Greenock – Prestwick);
- A82 (Dalnottar – Inverness); A701 (Dumfries – Beattock);
- A725/A726 (Shawhead – East Kilbride – Carmunnock Bypass);
- A737/A738 (St James Interchange – Kilwinning-Hawkhill);
- A751 (Inchparks – Innermessan).
North West Unit
The total route length in the North West Unit is approximately 1306 km, comprising the following trunk roads:
- M9/A9 (Edinburgh – Stirling to Thurso); A82 (Dalnotter to Inverness);
- A83 (Tarbet to Lochgilphead to Kennacraig); A84/A85 (Stirling to Crianlarich);
- A85 (Perth to Lochearnhead);
- A85 (Tyndrum to Oban); A86 (Spean Bridge to Kingussie);
- A87 (Invergarry to Kyle of Lochalsh to Borve to Uig);
- A99 (Latheron to Wick); A828 (Connel to South Ballachulish);
- A830 (Fort William to Mallaig);
- A835/A893 (Tore to Ullapool);
- A887 (Invermoriston to Moriston Bridge);
- A889 (Dalwhinnie to Laggan Bridge).
