Betting Spy: Rough start for Rafa in Chelsea ejector seat

Let’s hope there’s a trophy up for grabs when Chelsea play Man City on Sunday or new interim manager Rafa Benitez could be in trouble come Monday morning.

The revolving door at Stamford Bridge has become a complete joke with cruel wags suggesting Benitez’s job was under threat for not winning anything after his first training session.

I’ve even heard it said that scientists have now predicted that by 2030 wherever you are in the world you will never be further than 6ft away from an ex-Chelsea manager.

What can you say about Roberto di Matteo? – A decent man who did a decent job for a club making itself more unlikeable by the day.

The assumption is that Pep Guardiola will take over at Chelsea following his year-long sabbatical from the game.

And why wouldn’t he?

The job will pay a fortune and he’ll walk away blameless with a fully paid up contract if he fails to deliver the league, Champions League, World Cup, Ashes, Wimbledon singles title and Miss World crown within six months of taking over.

And it’s to Chelsea we turn to play up some of last week’s winnings on the Arsenal v Tottenham goal glut.

The Blues host Man City on Sunday and I can see the Manchester billionaires beating London’s most loaded side at a tempting 13/8 with Paddy Power.

Benitez can’t change Chelsea’s problems overnight.

Torres is still a pale shadow of his former self, the attacking midfield is crying out for a holding player and the defence has got more holes in it than Spurs’ favourite bar in Rome.

So basically that’s problems from front to back while a new manager takes over in front of a crowd ready to vent their disquiet at the first sign of trouble.

I’m sure Mancini will order his team to sit back and wait for Chelsea to run out of attacking ideas before flooding the gaping defensive gaps that are bound to open in the midfield and back line.

Chelsea will hold no fears for City after facing Ronaldo and co this week so let’s have a double stakes punt on a bad start for Benitez.
