Betting Spy: Back Madrid and avoid England

Time for a breather in the Premier League this weekend as Fabio Capello and his “new look” England take centre stage at Wembley tonight.

Many people think Don Fabio should be Gone Fabio by now after the World Cup debacle. But the FA have stuck with their six million pound man as England kick-off their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign against Bulgaria.

Capello bowed to public opinion and called-up a few new faces for last month’s Hungary friendly.

But don’t expect anything too radical for the “proper” games as the manager looks set to rely on the same old faces who have failed in the past – as long as they are fit.

Punters never seem to learn about England but I can’t see many people lumping on at odds of 3/10.

England should scrape through – but there is no way they should be such a short price given their recent performances.

An early Bulgaria goal could see the crowd turn and leave the home side with a real struggle to get off to a winning start.

Europe provides a better punting opportunity in the shape of the Champions League.

Barcelona are strong favourites at 11/4 with Paddy Power. But the real value lies with Real Madrid at 11/2 with Betfred.

Jose Mourinho is the undisputed king of the Champions League and it will take something really special to stop the special one guiding Madrid to the trophy.

Barcelona are a great side but have an unfortunate habit of finding someone to beat them in this competition.

As for the English contingent – I fear Spurs will fail to make it out of the group while Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal look quarter finalists at best.

Mourinho may be hard to love but a decent ante-post slip in the back pocket will have even his biggest detractors cheering come next May.
