The board of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has approved the business case for a huge new administration block providing 1,200 workspaces.

The board said “construction of the New South Glasgow Campus has been managed so efficiently that the entire cost of the new office block is being met from the original project budget of £842m.”

The original budget included contingency cash set aside to allow for any slippage due to weather delays and any other unforeseen issues.

But “due to the highly effective and efficient management of the construction project” that money has not been needed and can now be reinvested.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Chief Executive, Robert Calderwood, said: “I am delighted that the board has approved these plans to create modern office accommodation for staff transferring to the new campus in 2015.

“It is particularly pleasing the project has been managed so efficiently that the cost of the office block can be met from the original project budget.

“This is testament to the hard work and skill of all those involved in the construction from the labourers on the ground to the senior mangers working closely with our contactor Brookfield Multiplex to deliver the project on time and under budget.”

Now the board have approved the Full Business Case it will be submitted to the Scottish Government’s Capital Investment Group for their approval.

If approved by the CIG construction is likely to begin in February 2014 with the build completed in spring 2015 in time for the transfer of services into the new hospitals.
