The Government has given the nod to 35 proposed new free schools across England, claiming they will create 22,000 extra school places.

All mainstream schools that have been approved are deemed to be in areas with a need for high quality places, with London getting half the approvals.

The free schools groups will now finalise their plans in readiness to open from September 2015. Chief among their tasks will be to secure a site.
