Betting Spy: Rare win for West Ham up North

I’m going to break one of my golden rules of gambling this week.

“Never back West Ham on an away trip up North” is something that should be tattooed on my chest following years of capitulation.

The Hammers have always been a soft touch north of Watford.

Even when the side boasted a trio of World Cup winners in the Sixties everything went wonky as soon as the team coach hit the M1.

And it’s been the same story for years as the Irons handed-out an three easy points across football’s northern outposts.

But not any more. West Ham have undergone a revolution.

Sam Allardyce’s men are playing decent football at last. And now is the time to break the away day hoodoo.

Now let’s not get daft – I wouldn’t be so bullish if Saturday’s opposition was Man City.

But Burnley are hosts and they offer a great chance for a rare northern away win at a decent price.

The bookies are dangling 7/4 for a West Ham win and that’s a price I like the look of.

Burnley are finding life tough in the Premier League and have a number of injury doubts over key players.

They are yet to win a game at Turf Moor this season and could be there for the taking for a West Ham side brimming with confidence after back-to-back home wins and a decent showing at Old Trafford.

Alex Song could be dominant in this one and Allardyce will have his men set to pick-off a home team desperate to secure a first win for the home supporters.

If, come 4.45 on Saturday, it’s all gone wrong again for the Irons then I’ll be the first one on the phone to the tattoo parlour.
