The project will transform the Coleford site into a modern leisure and community hub after years of planning, funding delays and redesign.
BAM was originally appointed to deliver the £11m project in 2023 but withdrew after it failed to agree a final price with the local council.
The final sign-off price has not been revealed but is understood to be around £12m.
The scheme centres on a new indoor leisure offer including a 53-station gym, group fitness studios, soft play, party rooms and café, alongside the refurbishment of the former Speedwell Building to provide office space, community use and a new outreach base for Hartpury University.
External works will deliver a floodlit 3G pitch for rugby and football with a spectator area, backed by Football Association funding secured last year.
Pick Everard is supporting the scheme as cost and project manager.
Forest of Dean cabinet member Sid Phelps said: “This is a hugely positive moment for the Council as we confirm that contracts have now been formally agreed with Willmott Dixon for the construction of Five Acres.”
He added: “With an intended start date of 27 April 2026, we are excited to move from planning to delivery and to see this much-anticipated facility begin to take shape.”
