The high-profile job was supported by several other smaller civils orders taking total bagged work to just over £300m, and securing top position in November’s contracts league.
Costain took the honours for the biggest single win as EDF Energy confirmed the firm had taken the £250m package to build three marine tunnels to channel seawater in and out of Hinkley Point nuclear power station.
Carillion and Morgan Sindall each landed a share of £140m Manchester Airport Relief Road project, while a Murphy and Kier joint venture with AECOM bagged the £177m Deephams sewage treatment works upgrade for Thames Water in London.
On the building side, McLaren bagged a £70m job for regional distribution centre in Amesbury for joint clients, TJ Morris & Clowes.
The big wins helped close the gap on Balfour Beatty in the 12-month rolling league to November, although Britain’s biggest contractor is still favourite to take the 2013 title for most work won.
BAM, Morgan Sindall and Kier have all to play for in December with £20m of work separating the next three places, promising a nail-biting finish to the year for second place to Balfour.
