Employees at the company took to LinkedIn suddenly yesterday to express their interest in vacancies at other firms.
The firm was established 48 years ago and employs around 40 staff working for several main contractors like Laing O’Rourke, B+K and Willmott Dixon in recent years.
Staff said they were made redundant on Friday with one claiming the firm had entered administration. Calls to the business yesterday went unanswered and no formal insolvency notice has yet been published.
One staffer, who was laid off when a previous contractor went into administration just last year, said: “WJL Contracts has now also gone into administration, meaning I’ve been made redundant once again.
“So I’m back on the job hunt.”
Another wrote: “Well, yesterday didn’t go quite as planned. Due to a company redundancy, I am now officially open to new opportunities.”
Unlike many specialist joinery subcontractors, WJL manufactured products in-house from its 16,000 sq ft Staffordshire production facility.
