Applebridge buys housing civils contractor Hughes Bros

Teesside-based Construction Group The Applebridge Family has acquired civils contractor Hughes Bros Construction.

Darlington based Hughes Bros specialises in earthworks and site preparation for new build housing schemes.

Latest results for the firm for the year to November 30 2025 show a turnover of £34.7m generating a pre-tax profit of £690,000.

Applebridge has also acquired Hughes Bros’ sister company JIG Drainage.

Both businesses will continue to operate under their existing names.

The Applebridge Family is a group of nine construction companies that offer a wide range of disciplines within the residential, commercial and multi-utility sectors with a
collective annual turnover of £160m.
