Over 60 firms on the existing civils framework now face a fight to retain places on the four year deal with invitations to tender due out on 5 October.

Carmarthenshire County Council is leading the procurement with Ceredigion, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire and Swansea councils.

Natural Resources Wales, Powys County Council and companies wholly owned by the participating councils will also be able to use the enlarged framework.

The new framework will cover everything from small local civils jobs through to major £3m-plus schemes and specialist infrastructure work across the region.

The planned lot structure includes:

• Small civils works worth up to £750,000
• Medium civils works from £750,000 to £3m
• Large civils works worth more than £3m
• Demolition
• Public lighting and associated electrical works
• Lining and road marking
• Surfacing
• Ground investigations
• Marine works
• Traffic management
• Bridge maintenance and associated works
• Hard and soft landscaping and maintenance

Smaller civils packages will be split into county-specific lots, while medium and large schemes will be let through regional lots.

The councils said the final lotting structure is still being developed and could change before the full tender is published.

The tender notice is due out on 5 October, with bids due by 16 November and awards expected in January.

The framework is scheduled to go live at the start of February 2027 and run for three years, with an option to extend for a further 12 months.
