As we experience sustained growth across the business, we are recruiting for a Civils Project Manager to join our team in the Southeast of England, working in West Sussex, Hampshire or Kent. Barhale’s civil engineering and infrastructure projects are varied in value, complexity and duration, from established frameworks to individual bespoke projects and unplanned emergency works. With projects varying from £200k to £10m+, the Project Manager will be essential in the management and delivery of successful civil engineering projects.
The Role
The project manager will deliver multiple ongoing projects while adhering to, and even outperforming, the specified quality and the required programme. He or she will also be responsible for maximising the commercial performance. The role also involves working closely with the estimating department, engineers, and surveyors, prioritising the safe completion of projects and ensuring customer requirements and expectations are always maintained or exceeded.
Key Responsibilities
General Management
- Producing financial forecasts, monitor and control project costs, and preparing monthly performance reports.
- Overseeing projects from design to completion, ensuring all handover documentation is in place.
- Reviewing progress, budget, resources, and planning to keep projects on track.
- Defining and communicating clear scopes of work for all work packages.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and design consultants.
- Chairing weekly site meetings and maintaining accurate records of discussions and actions.
- Developing and managing construction programmes in collaboration with Barhale staff.
- Coordinating and overseeing site investigations during construction.
- Delivering buildable, cost-effective engineering solutions that meet client requirements.
- Ensuring project plans, risk assessments, method statements, waste management plans, and procurement align with company procedures.
- Maintaining detailed site diaries and records.
- Driving cost efficiencies and optimising commercial outcomes.
- Preparing estimates for additional work outside target costs and assisting with tendering new projects.
- Identifying and pursuing potential new clients.
Health, Safety, and Environment
- Leading by example, promoting the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance.
- Keeping all HSE-related documentation up to date, producing monthly reports.
- Ensuring subcontractors comply with Barhale’s procedures and processes.
- Liaising with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with HSG47, HAUC, NRSWA, Chapter 8, and other industry standards.
- Delivering training sessions and briefings.
